On a night where the Steelers' defenders were heavily tested, Gujarat Fortune Giants defeated Haryana Steelers 47-37. Steelers showed signs of improvement in the second half, but it was too late to change the outcome of the match.
It wasn’t the perfect start for the Steelers as Gujarat Fortune Giants got rid of Monu Goyat in their first raid of the match. Naveen got us off the mark but our defense was slow to get off the blocks. The opposition was brilliant in offence and defense and their raiders were quick to pounce on every opportunity. They inflicted an all-out on us which put us on the back foot early on. Monu tried his best to get us closer to the opposition’s score, but the defensive errors continued. First half ended with Steelers trailing 16-28.
It was a much better start to the second half as points were coming easily. Gujarat Fortune Giants came into their own as the half progressed however. But there was a late revival for the Haryana Steelers as Monu, Vikash and Naveen scored points aplenty. The Steelers even inflicted an all-out in the 35th minute trailing by just 8 with the score reading 32-40. But it was too late with Steelers eventually losing the game. Monu Goyat top-scored with 11 points and got good support from Naveen (7 points) and Vikash (6 points). If the defense could have contributed more, it would have been a much tighter contest.
Steelers will face Jaipur Pink Panthers next in Panchkula on 18th of December.
